Monitor agents that control environmental conditions and energy flow
Designing a smart home agent-monitoring platform to help administrators and residents understand how automated agents manage indoor environmental conditions and energy flow.
EnergyWell is a smart home web interface for monitoring intelligent agents that control environmental conditions and energy flow across a residential building. The platform supports two user roles, helping home administrators configure automation preferences and allowing residents to understand how the home’s agents behave in response to comfort needs, occupancy, schedules, and energy flexibility.
The design focused on making agent-driven automation visible, understandable, and trustworthy. The goal was to clarify what each agent is doing, why specific automation decisions are made, and how those decisions affect indoor comfort and energy behavior, without overwhelming residents with unnecessary technical complexity.

The goal is to support home administrators and residents through a smart home web interface that makes it easier to monitor automation agents and understand their results.
The users can monitor agents and the outcomes of their actions. Automations are performed based on the available energy capacity and flexibility of the building, as well as resident activities, schedules, occupancy, and comfort preferences. This allows the system to balance energy behavior and indoor environmental comfort while keeping the automation logic visible to the people living in the home.
The solution supports two main user roles:
- Home administrator
A configuration experience that allows the owner or renter to set up automation preferences, comfort priorities, schedules, occupancy-related settings, and the conditions under which agents can act. - Resident
A simplified monitoring experience that allows residents to view the behavior of the agents controlling indoor environmental conditions and understand how automated decisions affect their comfort and daily routines.
