PURPOSE

Designing a smart home monitoring and automation platform to help home owners, administrators, and residents understand, control, and optimize indoor environmental conditions and energy behavior.

OVERVIEW

ProHome is a smart home web interface for monitoring and controlling environmental conditions and energy flow across a residential building. The platform supports different user roles, from high-level building monitoring to everyday resident control, helping users understand how the home performs, how energy is used, and how automation can respond to both building capacity and resident needs.

The design focused on creating a clear and scalable interface for room-level and whole-house monitoring, manual and automated control, and preference-based automation. The goal was to reduce complexity around smart home energy management, clarify the relationship between comfort, occupancy, schedules, and energy flexibility, and support users with different levels of technical knowledge without fragmenting the product experience.

ABOUT THE SOLUTION

The goal is to support three user roles to monitor a smart home through a web interface, providing options to automate based on (1) energy capacity and flexibility of the building, and (2) resident activities and preferences (schedule, occupancy, comfort preferences).

The users can monitor and control (manually and automatically) the environmental conditions in the house per room and for the whole house. A home owner/ manager/ maintainer can monitor high level energy behavior of the building. A home administrator (owner/renter) can set-up their preferences for automation settings. A resident (simple user) can view the behavior of the house and use the manual functionalities to control the environmental indoor conditions.
